Last night was a lovely benefit show at the Vera Project for an organization I really like called Skate Like A Girl. The show sold out ahead of time and was pretty packed right for the first band. There was a huge raffle with some really sweet stuff, a button-making station, sick t-shirts (I got one that I’m really excited about even though it’s a youth size, but it still fits me because I’m a mutant). There were some absolutely adorable young kids dancing during the bands (we’re talking <5 year olds rocking out to Acapulco Lips and Wimps with energy that would exhaust me). All the bands were really awesome — all the bands were artists I hadn’t seen before somehow, and I’ll be making a point to try and see them all again soon. I have nothing but good things to say about this show. Anyway, to the pic on this post, Kimya Dawson headlined the show and was just a delight. There were a lot of older songs (10+ years ago) dug out for the set. Kimya asked everyone in the room to sit down for the set so things got nice and cozy on the floor since it was sold out. I’m really happy with how the show turned out, and I hope they raised a ton of money for the next year of skating and awesomeness.
